OWAAD conferences (Organisation for Women of African and Asian Descent)
OWAAD was set up in 1978 to bring together Black and Asian women across the UK. They held their first conference in 1979. It was a groundbreaking umbrella organisation which spawned many local black women's groups.

  • March 1980: 2nd OWAAD (Organisation for Women of African & Asian Descent) conference, "Black Women in Britain - Fighting Back', London, attended by 600 women
  • 1981: 3rd OWAAD conference, London
  • June, 1982: Final OWAAD conference, focus on "Black feminism"

Housewives in Dialogue conferences
Housewives in Dialogue is the umbrella group for the Wages for Housework campaign (set up in 1975), English Collective of Prostitutes, Black Women for Wages for Housework and other groups which used to be based at the Kings Cross Women's Centre (now at the Crossroads Women's Centre in Kentish Town)

  • 13 November, 1982: "Bringing it all back home: Black and immigrant women speak out and claim our rights" conference held in London, attended by 350 women
  • 16-17 June, 1984: "Black and immigrant women claim our rights II: Women Count - Count Women's Work" conference in London

11 December, 1982: "Women, Immigration & Nationality Laws" organised by Sheffield Women Against Racism

13 March, 1982: Feminist Review conference "Feminism and the Political Crisis of the 80s", Kingsway Princeton College, London

27 March, 1982: Women's Fightback conference: "Women in Trade Unions", Kingsway Princeton College, London

1983: Lesbian Sex and Sexual Practice Conference

1984: "We Are Here" Black feminist conference

October, 1985: Zami, 1st black lesbian conference, London

July, 1986: Women Alive conference

1987: First Scottish Black Women's conference

April, 1990: Zami II, 2nd black lesbian conference, Birmingham
